Prague in August is vibrant, festive, and alive with summer energy. August is the last month of summer and marks the end of the peak tourist season in Prague. The first half of August feels very much like July, and I highly recommend visiting during this time. However, by the second half of the month, summer starts to fade. You’ll notice it in the earlier sunsets and cooler evening temperatures. It’s still possible to enjoy the outdoors at night, but the air is noticeably chillier, and the lively evening atmosphere gradually begins to move indoors.
If you’re hoping to experience Prague’s nightlife in full swing, you might want to consider visiting in early June instead of late August. The weather is quite similar, but the days are longer by about two to two and a half hours. This extra daylight really makes a difference, especially in the evening, when I can comfortably stay outside after sunset much later in June than I can at the end of August.
Prague is Alive and Vibrant in Late Summer: Things to Do in August

Here’s my list of places I recommend enjoying and visiting in August (beyond the usual landmarks and popular attractions):
1. Enjoy a Beer at a Popular Beer Garden
Czech beer is renowned worldwide, and while enjoying it in a cozy pub is great, nothing compares to drinking it outdoors. Letná and Riegrovy Sady are two top spots with spacious beer gardens. Letná Beer Garden is particularly iconic, offering stunning views of the city as you sip a cold Czech beer under the open sky. Whether you’re with friends or soaking in the lively atmosphere among locals, expats, and tourists, it’s a classic Prague experience.
I’ve spent birthdays here, relaxed after work with colleagues, or simply enjoyed a solo beer, often meeting new people along the way.
My Tip: After your last beer at Letná, walk to the Metronome for live music or a stunning night view of the city.

2. Enjoy the Modern Circus at Letní Letná!
Letní Letná is an international festival showcasing contemporary circus, theater, music, and visual arts. Held in Letná Park throughout most of August, it’s a must-see if you enjoy modern performing arts. Be sure to check out the program for a unique cultural experience.
3. Walk Through Prague in the Evening
As night falls, Prague’s landmarks light up beautifully around 9 or 10 PM. Enjoy views of Prague Castle, Petřín Hill, and the National Theater from the Charles Bridge. The narrow streets near the castle, like Nový Svět, Úvoz, Loretánská or Nerudova, are especially magical after dark. For stunning panoramas of the illuminated city, head to the top of Prague Castle or Petřín Hill.
4. Rent a Yellow Pedal Boat on the Vltava River
I highly recommend taking in Prague’s historic skyline from the water. Renting yellow pedal boats on the Vltava offers a relaxing experience, especially for couples or small groups. For a quieter ride, choose boats at Slovanský Island, though the ones near Charles Bridge offer the best views.
Pack a drink, snack, and water, and be ready for the midday heat. If you’re comfortable walking around 5,000 steps a day, you’ll find this activity both easy and enjoyable.

5. Enjoy a Lovely Evening on a Boat
If you’re visiting Prague with your loved one, a romantic evening boat cruise along the Vltava River is a must. Glide through the heart of the city while enjoying breathtaking views of illuminated landmarks like Prague Castle and Charles Bridge. Many of these cruises offer dinner and live music, creating the perfect atmosphere for a relaxing and magical date night after a day of sightseeing.

6. Watch the Sunset with Your Loved One
For a truly romantic experience, pack a blanket and some drinks, and make your way to Riegrovy Sady. From the Pawla Adamowicze Promenade, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Prague Castle and Malá Strana. To make it extra special, I recommend arriving a bit before sunset – this spot offers one of the most stunning sunsets in the city, creating the perfect backdrop for a memorable evening with your partner.

7. Enjoy View to Prague with Drink from Rooftop Bar
For a memorable evening in Prague, visit stylish rooftop bars like Cloud9, Casablanca, Coda, or Terasa u Prince. Enjoy drinks with panoramic views of the city’s skyline. Arrive before sunset for a golden hour experience, and stay for the lively atmosphere as night falls – perfect for ending your day.
8. Relax with a Snack and Drink by the Vltava River
Relax by the Vltava at Smíchovská Náplavka, with great views of Prague Castle. Visit in the late afternoon or early evening for a quieter experience, and enjoy a drink or snack as you watch boats drift by and the city’s skyline reflect on the water – an ideal spot for a peaceful break.
9. Watch a Movie Under the Stars at a Summer Cinema
During the August, Prague is still a hub for film lovers, with over 50 outdoor cinemas showcasing everything from classics to indie films and popular blockbusters. Watching a movie beneath the stars in a park or a historic courtyard is enchanting. Check out the schedules and places. One of my top recommendations is Sunset Cinema.
10. Dance at an Outdoor Live Concert
Enjoy live music at unique spots like the Metronome, or at popular venues like Club Cross, Riegrovy Sady, and Žluté lázně. It’s the perfect way to spend a laid-back evening with great tunes and a cold beer – just remember to check the schedule and grab tickets if necessary! For a truly memorable experience, the Metronome offers not only great music but also stunning views of the city.

11. Romantic Stargazing and City Views on Petřín Hill
For a romantic stargazing experience, head to Petřín Hill. Despite the glow of the city, you can still spot stars above the illuminated skyline. The hill provides breathtaking views of Prague, making it ideal for an evening walk or a visit to the Petřín Tower for a higher perspective. For a closer look at the stars, stop by the nearby observatory—it’s a magical way to wrap up your night.
12. Stroll and Explore Prague’s Top Gardens
In August, Prague’s gardens bloom with vibrant flowers and greenery. Wallenstein Garden is my favorite, with its statues, peacocks, and peaceful pond. Below Prague Castle, the Paradise, Ramparts, and Hartig Gardens offer stunning views and rich history. For a quieter escape, Vojan Gardens provides a serene retreat, while the hidden Franciscan Garden offers calm near Wenceslas Square, a spot I often visit.
13. Taste Fresh Local Food at the Farmer’s Market on Náplavka
Prague’s top farmer’s market is at Náplavka in Výtoň, open every Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Though busy, the riverside setting and variety of fresh produce, pastries, cheeses, and craft beers make it worth the visit. It’s a great spot to relax, enjoy views of Vyšehrad and Prague Castle, and savor local flavors. I visit regularly – definitely a must-see!

14. Celebrate with Pride at Prague Pride
In early August, Prague hosts a week-long celebration of the LGBT+ community and its allies. The highlight of Prague Pride is the Saturday parade, which attracts tens of thousands of participants and spectators as it winds through the city.
